NFT, blockchain, tokens and e-learning courses

Blockchain technology in e-learning

An NTF non-fungible token in online learning? E-learning courses protected with new technologies.

Approximate reading time: 2m 5s

What is NFT?  NFT or non-fungible tokens are blockchain-based tokens that prove ownership and origin of digital items such as images, video files, and even physical assets.

They became known in 2021 when millions of dollars in NFT art sales filled the headlines of articles and posts, and Twitter  was taken over by NFT avatars such as Bored Ape Yscht Club, CryptoPunks, Pugy Penguins.

Non-fungible token (NFT) (non-fungible token) is a unique record in a given blockchain

Turning digital files into tradable blockchain-based assets does not require programming skills.

How do you mine a non-fungible token NFT? The easiest way is to do it in Ethereum.  Ethereum is the most popular blockchain for NFT, and OpenSea is the most popular NFT marketplace.

Ethereum or ETH is the name of the currency of this network. When you sell or buy NFT, you will most likely use Ethereum.

Ethereum is listed on almost all crypto exchanges /it is the second-largest cryptocurrency/, so there is no problem buying some.

But why buy Ethereum to sell NFT? To buy and sell NFT, an NFT marketplace is used, and registering on OpenSea costs Ethereum.

You will have to pay for the „initialization“, which is a one-time fee for registration on the platform. How much Ethereum will you need? Well, there is no good answer to this question because the price of „gas“ /this is the transaction fee/ fluctuates significantly, so there is no good answer. Depending on the network conditions /how busy it is/, it can be $30 to $300.

NFT marketplaces like OpenSea work with crypto wallets. There are many Ethereum wallets. One of the most popular is Meta Mask. Meta Mask is a browser plugin and works best with Google Chrome or  Brave.  Once installed, it allows you to store Ethereum and Ethereum-based tokens /including NTF/.

You will need to create accounts and give it a try.

Are you wondering why we are telling you all this?  Because the use of cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum or Bitcoin, NTF, wallets, crypto exchanges is inevitable. Even more so in a sector where the sale and delivery of e-learning is tied to usage rights and receiving a commission from every sale.

If we want e-learning to be protected and to receive a commission from every sale, selling it through NFT is a good solution and provides excellent protection for online course creators.

Every e-learning course contains unique elements; graphics, videos, music, and text. Often, authors and creators of e-learning courses try to protect them against theft or resale. However, this is a difficult task. Everyone knows how easy it is to re-record a video, download a photo, or copy the course text!

The emergence of non-fungible tokens NTF will improve the situation, because e-learning courses can be reliably protected, and their authors will be able to receive payment with every sale.

There is also one other advantage that should not be overlooked. This  is the possibility for the e-learning course to be published in various MOOC platforms and remain protected in terms of authorship and its uniqueness.

Will this become a practice? We will see. Time will tell whether non-fungible tokens NTF will become common in the eLearning industry in the coming years.

Често задавани въпроси

What is an NFT in e-learning?
An NFT, or non-fungible token, is a blockchain-based token that proves ownership and origin of digital items. In e-learning, it can be used to represent a course as a unique digital asset. This helps make online courses more identifiable and harder to copy or resell without permission.
How can NFT help protect online courses?
NFTs can help protect e-learning courses by turning them into unique blockchain-based assets. Because each course can contain original graphics, videos, music, and text, this approach can support authorship protection and reduce unauthorized resale. It also makes it easier for course creators to keep control over how their content is distributed.
Can course creators receive payment from every sale with NFT?
Yes, the page says selling e-learning through NFT is a good solution if the goal is to receive a commission from every sale. This can be useful in a sector where course delivery and usage rights matter. It gives online course creators a way to protect their work and benefit from repeated sales.
What blockchain is most commonly used for NFTs?
Ethereum is described as the most popular blockchain for NFTs. It is also the network most commonly used when buying or selling NFTs. Ethereum is widely available on crypto exchanges, and its currency, ETH, is used for transactions on NFT marketplaces.
Do I need programming skills to create an NFT?
No, the page says turning digital files into tradable blockchain-based assets does not require programming skills. That means NFTs can be created without advanced technical knowledge. However, you still need to use the right blockchain tools, a wallet, and a marketplace such as OpenSea.
Can e-learning courses stay protected on MOOC platforms?
Yes, the content says NFTs may allow e-learning courses to be published on various MOOC platforms while remaining protected in terms of authorship and uniqueness. This is presented as one of the advantages of using non-fungible tokens in online learning. It may help creators share courses more widely without losing control over ownership.
