Sometimes it is difficult to find the most suitable images. Your images should add value to the training, whether it is a graph or diagram that clarifies the information, or a simple example that helps the learner understand. Keep in mind that different e-learning platforms display images differently. There are 10 things you must consider when placing images and visual effects in your training:
1. Find quality images. Avoid using blurry or pixelated images in your e-learning. It is better not to use any images at all than to use low-quality ones.
2. Do not use images or visual effects without a specific purpose. It is extremely important that all images you use add value to your training. Do not use images just for decoration or to fill space. Images without a specific purpose can be distracting to the learner rather than useful.
3. Choose valuable images. All images you use should add value to the training, for example, a graph, diagram, or photo that students can refer to.
4. Do not use overly complex images. If you have a complex graphic that is extremely important for your training, consider placing it on a single slide/screen, separate from the description. This will allow you to insert a larger image where learners can see more details. When possible, avoid using complex graphics and choose a simpler version if possible.
5. Use different visual effects. Try to use a variety of graphics and images in the training. They can be graphs, diagrams, photos, attachments, videos, or even just numbered lists. Different visual effects help the learner organize information more easily.
6. Do not overload the training with images. Adding too many visual elements can easily make the training cluttered and confusing for the learner. With fewer visual effects, the learner can focus on the content more easily.
7. Use images and words together. Try to place text and pictures together, showing the same meaning in different ways. Learners remember and learn important points or terms more easily when they associate them with an image.
8. Do not use text together with complex images. Placing text together with complex graphics will only unnecessarily complicate understanding even further. In such a case, place the text on a separate slide/screen.
9. Use consistent and compatible images. Consistency helps the learner concentrate on the content without being distracted by changes in the training design.
10. Do not copy images from Google. Many images on Google are protected by copyright, and using them in your e-learning would lead to a violation of those rights.
By following these 10 rules, you will create your training without worries. Try to use the capabilities of your e-learning platform and add visual elements throughout the training, not just in the presentations.
