Picasa is a very easy-to-use tool and is perfect for basic image editing - cropping and enhancing. The latter option is especially useful if you use your own photos.
Picasa does not have an option for editing layers, but it does allow you to tag and categorize the images you will use for your training. For this purpose, you can use both your personal computer and your network drive.
PhotoScape is a great product, and with it you can do quite a bit more than with the other tools in this class. You still cannot edit image layers with it, but on the other hand you will have access to many high-quality and beautiful filters.
Paint.net is a truly very pleasant-to-use and useful application. It has most of the functionality of a standard graphic editor and can easily meet all your needs.
With PixBuilder you can edit images in various formats, while also having access to their layers. PixBuilder is an extremely lightweight tool – you can even run it from a USB drive.
