Therefore, in order to survive in a highly competitive market world, every company (regardless of its size) must be able to adapt to new consumer requirements and needs. This is, of course, a comprehensive process in which all employees must be involved. To this end, they need to receive the necessary training: to become thoroughly familiar with the company policy, goals and values, as well as with what their role will be and, if necessary, to receive the knowledge needed for its proper execution.
A proven effective and convenient way to conduct in-house training is through online courses. Today we will not dwell on their advantages – they are sufficiently clear. What we will do is look at the topic of creating quality online training programs. They are an essential element of the process and guarantee good final results.
Gathering information
Before you proceed with creating your online training program, you need to set aside time for gathering initial information and further analyzing it. To this end, you should interview your employees – ask the right questions and you will be able to understand which are the „weak points“ that need to be „strengthened“.
After you identify the topic of your online training, make sure it provides examples from the real work environment. Otherwise, what is the point of it? „General talk“ will impress no one and your initiative will fail. A good idea is to divide the course into separate, smaller modules that help acquire specific work skills.
We recommend that you pay attention to the duration of these modules. They should not require more than 60 minutes of allocated time. This way your employees will easily fit the course into their schedule, and they will not be overloaded with too much information.
Of course, the information in the prepared training materials must be presented in the right way. Imagine that you are a newly hired employee and ask yourself how logical the given instructions are. An effective course should teach all the necessary skills, but they must be presented in a logical sequence. If this is missing, the chance of keeping the learners' attention is minimal.
Creating a presentation
Presentations can be prepared with the help of various tools. If you already have presentations made with PowerPoint, you can apply them in your online training. For this purpose, however, you need to bring them into proper form. You can use one of the tools that allow quick and easy creation of online training content. These tools are created to assist a broad audience and do not require possession of specific programming skills. If you are just starting to build your training materials, you will most likely need to use a more multifunctional tool that will allow you to create additional elements, such as tests and quizzes, for example.
Do not forget to add interactive and video content – of course, in the appropriate places and in the appropriate amount. There is no exact formula for calculating the text-to-multimedia ratio – do it by intuition and logic, keeping in mind that the first type of content should still be dominant.
You have already created the content of your online training – what remains to be done on the topic is to check it for typos. We know how difficult and tedious this is, especially when someone has reviewed a given text many times, but this step should not be skipped. A few swapped or missing letters can easily make a bad impression on the learners and weaken your authority.
Testing
To be sure of the quality and effectiveness of your online training program, it must be tested. To this end, choose a few people from your company whom you are sure will be honest and will express their real opinion.
Implementing the online training program
To implement the online training program you have created, you need to follow these instructions:
1. Choose a suitable learning management system. It should meet several basic requirements: support different file formats, allow interaction with learners, and be compatible with the SCORM standard.
2. Ask for your employees' opinion. The online training program will not be effective if its users do not like it or do not find it useful.
3. Continuously monitor and track the performance of the online training program. As we mentioned at the beginning of the article, business priorities change very quickly and you must be ready to meet the new conditions, regardless of their nature – market changes, the use of new technologies, legislative changes, etc.
