How do online training courses help the environment? - Part III

"Green policies" and the public image of companies

Recently, more and more companies that want to be socially responsible and environmentally conscious are turning to the so-called "green policies," whose goal is to minimize the harmful impacts on the environment as much as possible.

If you are a company owner, you most likely want it to be socially responsible and respected by the community. Introducing online training into your company’s system and highlighting the benefits of this for the environment is a sure step in that direction. The governments of some countries even encourage companies’ environmental policies, either financially or through the issuance of eco certificates.

Distance learning significantly eliminates negative effects on the environment by reducing paper and electricity consumption and lowering carbon emissions into the atmosphere. But e-learning also has other advantages that can make it an important part of your company’s "green policy".

If your company is developing and expanding, the number of employees who need training also grows. This leads to an increase in the size and/or number of training rooms. Through e-learning, your company can be "expanded" virtually. With e-learning, there is no need for physical expansion and renovation of classrooms, activities that consume wood or other materials that can be harmful to the environment. In addition, when trainings are held in rooms, trainees need various supplies and office equipment (computers, pens, markers, folders, coffee cups, napkins, plastic forks, etc.). With distance learning, the need to use such resources disappears.

Implementing an environmental company policy through the use of e-learning will not only have a positive effect on your company’s reputation and your brand, but may also prove important for your employees. You are very likely to win their sympathy if you ask them, instead of going to a classroom, to attend your training in a virtual environment. A study by the world-renowned human resources agency Adecco (USA) shows that about one third of employees are more likely to start working for a company that follows an environmental policy. Implementing such a policy attracts people, strengthens the brand, and builds relationships of trust with customers.

This concludes our series of articles dedicated to online learning, its contribution to environmental protection, and the implementation of "green policies." We hope we have managed to make you look at e-learning in a new, alternative way and appreciate it not only for the good results it provides as a form of training, but also because it is eco-friendly.

If you already use online training, you are not only modern and practical, but also thinking about the environment. If you have not yet joined the e-learning community, perhaps it is time to do so?
